Condominium(Shared Ownership)
A condominium (often shortened to condo) is a type of real estate ownership where:
- A person owns an individual unit (such as an apartment or townhouse) in a larger building or community.
- The common areas (hallways, staircases, gardens, parking lots, gyms, swimming pools, etc.) are jointly owned by all unit owners through an association (often called a Homeowners’ Association or Condominium Association).
- Each owner has a title deed to their unit and shares responsibility for maintenance of shared spaces.
Example: If you own a condo in Kigali, you own your private apartment, but the lobby, elevator, and parking lot belong to all owners collectively.
